In June 2024 Mission Australia opened Australia’s newest Youth Foyer in Townsville. The new Foyer welcomed 40 young people from Townsville and will support up to 350 young people over the next 10 years.
In Townsville, over 55% of all young people experiencing homelessness are First Nations young people. The Townsville Youth Foyer works with community partners to create pathways to independence for young people in the region.
“They’ve definitely given me the space I need to find out what I wanted to do… and to have that space to live independently as well. I want to get my study up in construction and I want to help build Youth Foyers for the future. To give people happiness and something to look forward to.” Elma, one of the new residents of Townsville Youth Foyer.
Former Logan Youth Foyer residents, Claire and Livi shared their wisdom and experiences with new Foyer residents, as well as Premier Steven Miles, Queensland Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon, and Queensland FoyerInvest partners.
